Nigeria: Kaduna Enforces Ban On Street Begging, Evacuates Beggars From Streets

Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, in collaboration with other agencies and the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development in Kaduna northwest Nigeria, have commenced evacuation of street beggars for rehabilitation at the Makarfi destitute camp.
Kaduna State Commandant of the Corps, Modu Bunu, while briefing personnel of the command Friday, urged them to ensure high discipline, diligence and synergy in discharging their duties.
NSCDC Spokesman, Orndiir Terzungwe, in a statement says the Commandant alongside others were required to assist in evacuating street beggars from the metropolis to Kakuri area, from where they will be moved to the camp.
According to him, the decision to evacuate destitute from the metropolitan was taken during the states’ security council meeting held on March 7th, adding that the meeting resolved that the corps and Nigeria Police should evacuate destitute and keep them in their custody for onward transportation to the camp arranged by the state government for their feeding.
The Kaduna State government after its security council meeting announced the commencement of enforcement of subsisting restrictions on begging, street hawking and usage of motorcycles for commercial transport in Kaduna metropolis and other urban centres in the state with immediate effect.
The enforcement of the ban became necessary following credible security report in order to safeguard lives and properties.
The Kaduna State government had in June 2016 issued a ban against street hawking and begging on major streets in the state capital and surrounding local government areas.
The ban led to protest against the provision by the beggars under the umbrella body of the Joint National Association of persons with Disabilities. It further generated lots of controversies which caused a delay in the execution of the law.

NSCDC Deploys 10,000 Personnel for Edo Governorship Election

Kaduna (Nigeria) – The Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Abdullahi Gana Muhammadu, has directed the immediate deployment of 10,000 Personnel and redeployment of Acting Deputy Commandant General (DCG) Operations, Hillary Kelechi Madu, to Edo state to enhance the security level during the forthcoming state’s Gubernatorial Polls scheduled to hold on September 9, 2016.

The Acting DCG is to be assisted by two Assistant Commandant Generals in Charge of Zone G Benin and Zone E Owerri with other five Commandants drawn from the neighboring states; while the personnel are to be redeployed from Kogi, Ondo, Delta, Bayelsa and Anambra state Commands.

A statement by the Civil Defence Public Relations Officer, Emmanuel Okeh noted that, Gana also approved the deployment of sniffer dogs, Specialized Units such as the SWAT, CBRN, CTU, Undercover and Special Forces to protect Critical Infrastructures and National Assets situated in the state from been vandalized.

The Commandant General further warned personnel not to be found in any act of misconduct but work in synergy with other sister security agencies to ensure a peaceful conduct of election.

While admonishing Politicians in Edo not to take the election as a do or die affair, he said victory comes from God alone, as such, the Winner should accept it in humility while the Loser should accept it in magnanimity, noting that, there is always another time to achieve success.

“Election will come and go, but Edo state as a home of indigenes remains, therefore there is no need to fight and destroy what belongs to generations born and yet unborn,” he pointed out.

“Youths in the state should shun thuggery and all forms of vices that negate peaceful conduct of election. They should not allow themselves to be used by any person(s) to carry out any form of satanic act(s), as those demeaning politicians and their supporters can never bring their sons or daughters to carry out such dirty jobs,” he added.

Pipeline Vandalism: NSCDC Destroys 250 Illegal Refineries, Arrest 118 Suspects

Kaduna (Nigeria) –The Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) says it has destroyed over 250 illegal refineries and arrested over 118 suspected vandals within the last one year in its bid to secure lives, properties and government infrastructures in the country.

A statement by NSCDC spokesperson, Emmanuel Okeh, explained that the achievement was made within one year, from July 2015 to date, under the leadership of the NSCDC incumbent Commandant General, Abdullahi Gana Muhammadu.

According to the statement, intelligence report and pro-activeness of the Corps Anti-Vandal squad in the Niger-Delta area and other oil communities led to the clampdown on the illegal activities and arrest of the suspects.

While marking his one year in office, NSCDC Commandant General, Abdullahi Gana Muhammadu, said the Corps in its relentless effort has been partnering with NNPC in ensuring adequate distribution of petroleum products to all filling stations across the country as well as checkmating the activities of marketers who specializes on product diversion.

He noted that, the establishment of the Command and Control Centre have assisted the Corps in monitoring all the pipelines in the Niger Delta area, covering the six oil producing states – Bayelsa, Rivers, Edo, Akwa Ibom, Delta and Cross River, operating 24 hours every day.

“The introduction of the Centre led to the establishment of Nigeria Security Energy Command (NISEC) for training of personnel by starter point for an Italian company through the office of the National Security Adviser for the purpose of effective deployment to areas that are prone to vandalism.

“The Corps also partners with the youths of the communities trained by NISEC in the creeks and the Riverine areas.”

While reiterating NSCDC’s commitment in reducing vandalism to its barest minimum, NSCDC Commandant pointed out that, the outfit would continue with its sensitization programs to educate community leaders and their subjects on the dangers of vandalism.

He however urged those who are engage in such activities to desist from it, as it amounts to the economic sabotage.

NSCDC Deploys 40,000 Personnel To Beef-up Security For Sallah

Kaduna (Nigeria) – Commandant-General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Abdullahi Muhammadu, has directed the deployment of 40,000 personnel to beef-up security during the Eid-il-Fitr celebration across the country.

A statement by NSCDC’s head of Press and Public Relations, Emmanual Okeh noted that the Commandant-General made this known to newsmen during a media parley and breaking of fast at his residence in Abuja, on Saturday.

According to the statement, Mohammadu assured Nigerians that, in spite of the uncertain security situation in some parts of the country, adequate preparation have been made to protect critical areas such as prayer grounds, markets, and motor parks among other soft targets.

He however called on the public to be vigilant and security conscious at all times by reporting any strange movements and objects around them to the security personnel; noting also, that the NSCDC was prepared to protect all critical national assets such as telecommunication masts and oil pipelines among others in collaboration with other security agencies.

“In our efforts to fight miscreants and criminal-minded individuals who see festive periods as the time to perpetuate their nefarious activities, all hands must be on deck in the areas of intelligence-gathering and reporting all suspicious behavior to relevant security authorities.”

While felicitating with all Nigerians, especially the Muslims on the Sallah celebrations, he urged them to continue to imbibe the spirit of peaceful coexistence and tolerance at all times.

Nigeria: IDPs From Cameroon Gets Succor From Refugees’ Commission

  • Suspect Arrested For Defrauding 9000 IDPs

Kaduna (Nigeria) – The Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) who recently returned from Cameroon Republic camping in Gamboru Ngala of Borno State, North-east Nigeria have received succor from the National Commission for Refugees (NCR).

The relief materials brought and distributed to them include mobile clinic, foodstuff, building materials, and school materials; others are household items like bedding materials, plastic buckets, bowls, leather mats, clothing for children and toiletries among others.

Presenting the relief materials to the Caretaker Chairman of Ngala Local Government Council, Abdulrahman Abdulkarim, for onward distribution, the Federal Commissioner of the Refugees’ Commission, Hadiza Kangiwa said the items were meant for the returnees who fled their homes following the Boko Haram insurgency to the neighboring country for safety. She noted that, they are essential materials to start a home.

While calling on national and international partners for support, she said the commission would not relent in giving assistance the group.

Abdulrahman Abdulkarim, while distributing the items to the refugees urged the beneficiaries to be steadfast in their prayers for peace to return in the area and state at large.

Meanwhile, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has arrested a suspect, Bukar Ladan, 50 in Mairi area of Maiduguri  for allegedly defrauding 9,000 IDPs of N27 million under the guise of supplying foods stuffs.

NSCDC Commandant of Borno State command, Abdullahi Ibrahim said the suspect allegedly collected N300 from each of the 9, 000 IDPs who are currently taking refuge in different camps in the state capital, Maiduguri

He noted, “Our men found out that some of the women in the IDPs camp were grumbling that they have paid for food supply without being delivered.

“It is very unfortunate that some people will go to this length and defraud this people who had suffered great trauma in the hands of Boko Haram insurgency.

“After going to the man’s house, we discovered that he did not have anything worth N10, 000. We don’t know what they are using the money for, but we are still investigating him”, the Commandant added.

He however cautioned the IDPs to be vigilant and wary of people around them.

Nigeria: NSCDC Wins 2016 Customs Volleyball Championship

Kaduna (Nigeria) – The Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) male and female teams emerged winners of the 3rd edition of the Comptroller-General of Customs National Open Volleyball Championship held over the weekend in Kaduna.

The male team defeated the Nigeria Customs team 3 – 1 while the female team defeated the Nigeria Customs Service 3-2 in a high-tension played match at the indoor sports hall of Murtala Mohammed Square.

The Nigeria Police Force came third in the male category while the Nigeria Immigrations came third in the female category.

26 teams participated in the competition consisting of 19 male teams and seven female teams. The teams comprises of security agencies and state teams.

Trophy winners went home with N500, 000 while the runners-up and second runners-up got N300, 000 and N200, 000 respectively in both the male and female categories; certificates were also presented to best servers, best receivers, best spikers, best attackers, and best court defense among others.

Speaking at the end of the tournament, NSCDC’s Director of Sports, Ayodele Titus Olusegun attributed the victories to hard work, dedication and support they got from the management.

In a remark also, representative of the Nigerian Customs, Tukura Danladi Haruna, said in sporting competition a winner and loser will definitely emerge, as such losers should work hard to win next year. He added, “For our sportsmen, we will encourage them to work hard next year to reclaim the trophy.

President of the Nigeria Volleyball Federation (NVBF) Habu Gumel, while making his remarks commended organizers of the competition, and said, the competition will also provide an avenue for talent hunt where talents can be selected to represent the country at any competitions.

Nigeria: NSCDC Arrests Eight Filling Station Managers, Two Tankers Over Fuel Diversion

Kaduna (Nigeria) – Nigeria Security & Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC), Kaduna State Command has arrested eight filling stations Managers, and also sized two tankers for illegal diversion of petroleum product in the state metropolis.

NSCDC State Commandant, Modu Bunu made this known while briefing journalists on the operational activities of the Command in Kaduna, North-west Nigeria.

He said the managers arrested were believed to be among saboteurs who are frustrating government’s efforts by selling Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) above approved pump price of N87 per liter; adding that, the command in collaboration with Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) are embarking on monitoring of distribution exercise of petroleum installations in various distribution outlets, so as to address the current fuel scarcity among other challenges in the petroleum sector.

“In view of the biting fuel scarcity leading to long queues across the Nation and the urgent need to end it, the Kaduna Command of NSCDC has stepped out measures to check-mate petroleum dealers who indulge in selling over the approved pump price to black-marketers beyond official hours which is from 0600hrs to 2000hrs,” he noted.

Bunu pointed out that, the suspects (managers of filling stations) have been released on bail after signing an undertaking, but further investigation would be carried out on the issue.

On the seized tankers with Registration Numbers: ZAR 84 XR and ZAR 85 XR, containing suspected fuel, the Commandant said investigation has confirmed that the tankers belonged to an oil magnate in Warri, Delta State – meant to be taken to Kano, but wondered why it was being diverted to another company (name withheld) in Kaduna metropolis before it was intercepted by NSCDC surveillance team.

He also noted that, the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) has requested the NSCDC to support it in enforcing that sales of petroleum product is restricted from 6.00am to 8.00pm pending an improvement in the situation which has caused untold hardship on Nigerians.

Nigeria’s Independence: Over 50, 000 Security Officers Deployed Across The Country

Kaduna (Nigeria) – Following Nigeria’s celebration of 55th independence anniversary celebration Thursday, over 50, 000 security officers have been placed on red alert to forestall any breach of peace during the celebration by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC), and the Nigerian police Force (NPF).

Commandant-General NSCDC Gana Muhammadu, said it has ordered the deployment of 50,000 personnel across the country while the Inspector-General of the Nigerian Police Force, Solomon E. Arase said, it has ordered all the zonal commands in the country to deploy all operational tools and manpower available in order to guarantee the safety and well-being of all citizenry.

The NSCDC Boss, who explained through his spokes man Okeh Emmanuel, in a statement, said the massive deployment of its officers was meant to prevent breach of peace; adding that, 5,000 sniffer dogs, mobile surveillance vehicle and other gadgets would be use for effective monitoring and supervision.

The Inspector General of Police also explained through the Force Spokes man Olabisi kolawole, in a statement, pointed out that officers and men of the Force have been charged to ensure round the clock security measures, including effective aerial and vehicular patrol of all nooks and crannies of the country.

“The IGP has specifically, directed all Zonal Assistant Inspectors-General of Police and Command Commissioners of Police to ensure adequate and effective deployment of all operational tools and manpower within their Commands, in order to guarantee the safety and well-being of the citizenry.”

Solomon Arase, assured Nigerians of a peaceful and secure anniversary celebration while saluting their courage and determination to build and sustain a strong, indivisible and virile nation, in spite of all confronting circumstances.

Both security agencies urged members of the public to cooperate with the security officers by providing useful information especially with regards to the on-going fight against terrorism and other forms of crimes and criminalities, for the benefit of all citizenry.

NSCDC Arrests Ex-convict Over Car Snatch In Northern Nigeria

Kaduna (Nigeria) – Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has arrested an ex-convict over alleged attempt to snatch a car in Nigerian city of Kaduna.

A statement by the Commandant of the Corps in Kaduna, Ibrahim Ningi says the suspect was arrested at the state secretariat where a large number of government workers were on-going verification exercise.

“On interrogation, the suspect identified himself as Mohammed Shehu, 55, who hails from Malumfashi LGA of Katsina State and confessed that he uses Master keys to open and steal cars. .”

He said the suspect was an ex-convict from Kaduna prison where he was released last week.

Ningi statement says the suspect would be arraigned in court as soon as investigation is concluded.

The statement calls on Nigerians to be vigilant and report suspected criminals in their midst to relevant security agencies.

It says the corps would adopt new measures to track down criminals in the state and solicits for the support of the people.
